IEEE SBs Germany Experiences Exchange Report

Summary:

The IEEE Student Branches (SBs) Germany Experiences Exchange was held on May 22 and 23, 2023, at Otto-von-Guericke-University in Magdeburg. The event was organized by the same university and attended by representatives from seven different IEEE SBs across Germany. The forum was a platform for experience sharing, problem discussion, and collaborative solution finding.

Event Details:

During the two-day event, attendees had the opportunity to attend presentations and engage in active discussions. Hui Cai from the Student Activities Committee (SAC) presented on vTools & OU Analytics, budget planning & refund procedures, and certificates for voluntary work for SB. Walid Habib, also from the SAC, provided insights on upcoming activities, competitions, and founding possibilities. Seven SBs shared their experiences, focusing on their founding stories, current status, methods for attracting and communicating with members, as well as Stammtisch topics.

One of the highlights of the event was the presentation by Moinam Chatterjee, who focused on the theme of Young Professionals in IEEE. The presentations were well-received, stimulating much interest and discussion.

Lab Visits:

The event also included a tour of several labs at the Otto-von-Guericke-University. The attendees visited the control room (Leitwarte), the mode swirl chamber (Modenverwirblungskammer), the absorber hall (Absorberhalle), and the power quality laboratory (Power Quality Labor).

Social Activities:

The first day of the event was concluded with an open-ended evening event, including a restaurant visit and bar, which provided an excellent opportunity for networking and informal discussions. On the second day, attendees toured Stimulate and Neoscan, providing additional insight into cutting-edge research and development.

Conclusions:

The IEEE SBs Germany Experiences Exchange was a successful event, fostering communication, collaboration, and knowledge exchange among the participating branches. Attendees left with a deeper understanding of the functioning and possibilities within IEEE, as well as potential strategies for improving and expanding their respective branches. The event also strengthened the network of IEEE SBs in Germany, setting a positive precedent for future collaboration.
